#381: 2012.07.01
this edition of framework:afield has been produced in canada by john f.
barber. for more information on his work, see
http://www.nouspace.net/john, or for this piece, see
http://www.nouspace.net/john/sound/contact.html. notes from the producer:
"Contact" is a radio sound art narrative focusing on the proclivity
throughout human history to seek connection and communication with the
spirit spectrum, parallel dimensions, or alien worlds beyond our own
universe.
As the premiere technology of the twentieth century, radio, with its
electromagnetic transmission waves carrying aural information through
the ether of atmosphere and space, transcending time and distance,
created, through its immediacy and immersion, the reality of hearing
from and being heard by others in alternate realities or worlds. Such a
sound journey has always been the provenance of radio.
Using acousmatic compositions, phonography, field recordings, and
sampling, "Contact" imagines such a radio broadcast and what might be
heard. For the best personal listening experience, headphones are suggested.
John F. Barber teaches in The Creative Media & Digital Culture Program
at Washington State University Vancouver. With regard to sound arts, he
is interested in opportunities afforded by Internet radio, online
iReportage, transmission arts, and geo-locative audio-based
immersive/interactive experiences, especially as they might promote
aural compositions/performances/installations as the basis for engaged
narrative.
again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw
field-recordings, field-recording based composition, or introduction
submissions. we are also now accepting proposals for full editions of
our guest curated framework:afield series. send proposals or material,
released or not, on any format, to the address at the bottom of this
mail. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
