framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity
presented by patrick mcginley
we took a detailed look at several releases in this edition: roel meelkop's 1998 release 7 [perceptions], and doug haire's removed and haunted. we featured and loved doug's 19 american waysides a while back, consisting of recordings made with old phonograph records along highways in the us; this is a much more polished and highly composed collection of location, real and imaginary. we also heard a few composition and an untreated recording from a new project, mystified, sampled some of the sounds from 2005 prix ars electronica competition (including a spectacularly delicate installation documentation of a room full of humming and clicking giant lightbulbs), and listened to a few more of jeph jerman's most recent collection on untreated recordings.
again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch!
