#486: 2014.11.02
listen to this edition here:
http://www.frameworkradio.net/2014/11/486-2014-11-02/
this edition of framework:afield has been produced in the uk by nick
weekes with students from sussex coast college. for more information see
http://www.tedversicolor.co.uk. about the program:
Sussex Coast College is situated in new buildings across two sites in
Hastings, East Sussex, UK. In Spring 2014 I led a small group of Art and
Design students in a sound survey of the Station Plaza campus.
We used a range of equipment from high end digital recorders to phones,
minidisc, and a vintage portable cassette recorder. There was no
specific aim given except to gather interesting material for a soundscape.
My own recording remit was to get the sound of the building itself and i
did this with two methods. The first was to use contact microphones
placed on the steel structures, stairs and pillars. Secondly i took
photos of the building and used these to influence some slicing
processes of the sound in post production.
What has emerged in this mix seems to reasonably represent the bustle
and the mysterious life of the college building during it’s daily workload.
Thanks to Andrew Robey and Sussex Coast College and in particular to the
students:
Oliver Brooks
Izabela Brudkiewicz
Amelia Kirk-Harkin
Carl Potter
Joshua Ross
Katrina Taylor
