Merry Christmas / Happy Winter Solstice and Very Best Wishes for 2015!

I wish to express my tremendous gratitude to all of you who helped and/OAR
quietly bounce back this past year, whether it was through generously
donating to the Akio Suzuki fundraising campaign or through purchasing
label releases and other items in the Diffusion Shop.

While there aren't very many new releases planned for 2015 (yet), I do plan
to launch a second fundraising campaign to finally re-issue some of the
early CDR releases on CD for longer-term posterity. And what better way to
do that than start with the most requested re-issue of the early CDR releases
Another Kind Of Language (AKOL). For the sake of the campaign, I plan to
offer an expanded version with a new cover design and a third CD featuring
new tracks by newly involved artists. There will also be at least one new
track by one of the artists involved with the first version of AKOL. The full
roster of artists will be announced when the campaign is launched (hopefully
sometime in January). Another fundraising campaign for a proposed 7 CD
boxed set for the field recording compilations for Phonography.org will be
launched later in 2015.

If you wish to stay better informed about this and other and/OAR news,
please sign up for the newsletter (on this page) and/or join me on Facebook
or Twitter.

Thanks for your time and again for your continued support. It has always
been my wish that and/OAR publications provide lasting value for everyone
who is inspired enough to purchase them.

Now Available:

Artist: Artificial Memory Trace
Title: Organfish - Electric Fish Songs From The Amazon
Catalog Number: and/43
Format: CD
Info & Samples: www.and-oar.org/pop_and_43.html

As many who've long tread the waters of and/OAR already know, Artificial
Memory Trace is none other than Slavek Kwi, and what we have here is a
much deserved CD re-issue of his seminal release of underwater
environmental recordings first issued on CDR via his Tentacles Of
Perception imprint in 2010. Re-edited and remastered for the occasion.
Prominently featured are underwater recordings of unidentified
gymnotiformes (a type of electric fish), plus other kinds of subaquatic fish,
insects, crustaceans and moving vegetation. The recordings were made
in Mamori, Amazonas, Brazil in November, 2009.

Gymnotiformes are mostly nocturnal fish that are capable of producing
electric fields for navigation and communication. The name "organfish" is
not a scientific term, but one invented by Slavek in reference to the sublime
and mysterious organ-like musicality of the sounds of electric fish, plus the
term is also in reference to the fish producing electrical fields from a
specialized internal organ called an "electric organ".

Artist: Michael Prime
Title: One Hour As A Plant
Catalog Number: and/42 / OHA 1
Format: CD
Info & Samples: www.and-oar.org/pop_and_42.html

All of the sounds used in this composition were produced by recording the
bioelectrical field of a specimen of the peyote cactus (Lophophora
williamsii). A fascinating work that takes the listener into normally unheard
realms.

One Hour As A Plant was composed in 2003 for Ben Green's Resonance
FM program called "One Hour As...". In 2005, Michael released a slightly
shorter version (57:57 versus 61:02) himself on CDR under the title "One
Hour As Peyote". After closely listening to both "OHAPlant" and
"OHAPeyote", it was decided that the 61:02 "OHAPlant" version would be
released on CD.

This release will also be the first of a new sub-series called "One Hour As...".
The plan is to mostly present new environmental sound work based on
Ben Green's concept, plus a small number of works previously broadcast
on the program (like this release and another one released by and/OAR in
2006 called Bordeaux TNT  by Afflux).

So, sound artists and recordists take note: and/OAR is looking for future
installments for the new "One Hour As..." sub-series. Please make contact
if you have a compelling idea to propose. OHA... will not be limited to just
environmental sound work for the main and/OAR series. Work that would
be a good fit for the either/OAR series will also be considered.
