[Composition 00071 is in two parts, and is extreme in its minimalism. The different elements of the composition are based on sine waves produced using FM synthesis, with effects applied to make slight alterations in the sound. The first note, C0 is followed by B0, creating a minimalistic ‘melody’ of one semi-tone. In part two, the C0 element is longer, eight bars, and there is an overlap of the two sounds. The sounds are surrounded by silence and the overall feeling of the composition is of a transcendent nothingness.]

[Composition 00072 is in two parts, and is a development of ideas that were explored in the earlier Composition 00071. Again, the content and overall texture is minimal. There is a singe sine wave-based eight-bar tone, C0, followed by eight bars of silence, followed by eight single notes, C0, followed by a another eight bars of silence. This composition is audacious, in that only one extra note is added in part two, to make nine single tones, instead of eight. Composition 00072 is part of an informal collection of compositions, ‘counting pieces’, that use either numbers as a spoken word element, or suggest the act of counting, as in this case, by the eight and nine tones.]

[Composition 00073 is five parts, with with a base element that repeats for all of the sections. The structure of the composition is of call and response, with the base element the ‘call’ or a ‘question’, and each response is a different answer to the same question. The response is actually the original call sound, but has been slightly altered and processed. This suggests that the question contains its own answer, and so the question always answers itself.]

[Composition 00074 is in fifteen parts, with a base element, a sine wave-based sound, that repeats throughout all of the sections. This base element is accompanied, on each repetition, by a different mutation of itself, and the mutations are in extreme contrast to the original sound. Each of the sounds are 128 bars long, and are followed by sixty-four bars of silence, creating a slowly oscillating change of texture.]
