listen to this edition here: x
this edition of framework:afield has been produced in the united states
by john f. barber in collaboration with the students from his internet
radio course. for more information see
http://www.nouspace.net/john/sound/sleepanddreams.html, or john's site
at http://www.nouspace.net/john. the details:
Between sleep and dreams
by John F. Barber
First broadcast: stress.FM as part of the Echoes #1 project, Lisbon,
Portugal, 13-14 July 2013
Previous iterations: Cough+Sniff Radio Arts Festival, Fogo Island,
Newfoundland, Canada, March 2013 (My 27:30 prototype, without student
samples.)
"Between sleep and dreams" imagines the enigma of waking, the narratives
assimilated by one's (sub)conscious from sounds heard during liminal
dreaming as an ongoing acousmatic collage, rising and falling like waves
on the surface of perception, difficult to attain, difficult to escape.
This work is both personal and collaborative. You can hear my liminal
soundscape: traffic noise, my cats eating, my heartbeat, my snoring, and
other incorporated sounds. Additionally, I have sampled work by students
in my Internet Radio: Theory into Practice class, taught spring 2013,
where we explored the realm "between sleep and dreams."
John F. Barber teaches in The Creative Media & Digital Culture Program
at Washington State University Vancouver. With regard to sound+radio
art, he is interested in opportunities afforded by Internet radio,
online iReportage, and geo-locative audio-based immersive/interactive
experiences, especially as they might promote aural
compositions/performances/installations as the basis for engaged narrative.
again, we are always looking for new material, whether raw field
recordings, field recording based composition, or introduction
submissions. we are also now accepting proposals for full editions of
our guest curated framework:afield series. send proposals or material,
released or not, on any format, to the address at the bottom of this
mail. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
