I don't use a USB mic but I can make a guess that it may be turning off the output in order to cancel feedback.
You would need to monitor through headphones.
Check System Preferences - Sounds - here you can turn on/off/adjust all inputs and outputs (assuming you are using the built in soundcard)
(in Logic you will also need to set the channel strip to 'monitor on')
