SuperCollider
has established itself as one of the most powerful environments for
audio programming, used by musicians, artists and scientists alike for
explorations of sound. Its wide scope, powerful language and optimised
sound engine has attracted people from all fields working in areas from
composition to machine listening to data sonification.
In
this three day workshop, participants will get up and running with the
cutting-edge audio synthesis and music programming language
SuperCollider. The workshop will be split into three parts: synthesis,
generative composition, and system design (such as interfaces and
installations).
The workshop is beginner level and participants should bring their own computers with SuperCollider installed.
SuperCollider is cross platform and free, to be downloaded here:

Thor
Magnusson is a musician/writer/programmer working in the fields of
music and generative art. His PhD from the University of Sussex focused
on computer music interfaces from the perspective of semiotics,
phenomenology and cognitive science. He is a Senior Lecturer in the
School of Art and Media at the University of Brighton and teaches
courses on computer music, algorithmic and interactive systems in the
Creative Systems MSc course at the University of Sussex and the Sonic
Arts course of Middlesex University. Thor is mainly interested in
improvisation, live performances, installations and audio software
production. He is a co-founder and member of the ixi audio collective.
With ixi he has written various musical software and given workshops
and talks in key institutions across Europe on the design and creation
of digital musical instruments and sound installations.
Thor
has given workshops that include SuperCollider for nearly a decade and
has been an active user of the environment, for example resulting in
his work with the ixiQuarks ( www.ixi-audio.net/content/download/ixiquarks )
