transition (soundscapes)
lab.synthse ushers in the new year with NAW's ambient soundscapes
On the first of January, 2008, lab.synthse is hosting transition (soundscapes),
an evening of tones and drones - experimental ambient music - featuring
performances by Eudroma, Darcin, Le Peuplier de Simon and NAW. Doors open at 7
p.m. Music starts promptly at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.
The concert was developed around the theme of transition - into the new year,
into a new life - and the atmosphere will be mediative as well as festive.
Following the wild parties of New Year's Eve, people are invited to bring
blankets, cushions, sleeping bags or any other items of comfort and let the
soundscapes take them where they will.
NAW is the alter-ego of Neil Wiernik, a Montrealer currently living in Toronto
who has been composing electronic music since 1988. Neil has recently entered
remission after a year-long battle with cancer. "Now that the battle is over,"
he says, "it's time to heal. And what better way to kick off my healing process
than with a live set of all the music I had been writing through my battle with
cancer!"
NAW will be joined by local electronic acts Darcin and Le Peuplier de Simon,
from labels Le Son 666 and Natacha's Recordings, respectively. The evening will
start with a debut performance by Eudroma, a new sonic project by members of
lab.synthse. The performances will be accompanied by video projections from
various collaborators.
lab.synthse is an art collective with members from Montreal, Vancouver, London
and Mexico City. Their headquarters, where this event will be held, are at 435
Beaubien Ouest, loft 200, Montreal. More than a simple venue, the loft is a
creative space where artists from different disciplines are invited to freely
engage in experimentation and play.
