NOVEMBER 28
ED TOMNEY - “Practical & Aesthetic Concerns of Sound for Filmmakers”
“Ed Tomney will show short clips from his films and European
commercials, then give background information as to how the pieces
were constructed and negotiated between producers and directors
involved. Q&A follows. This lecture is designed for composition and
film students with an emphasis on what it is like in the real world
(politics of producers, pecking order, etc.) and how to deal and
operate in that environment. Another segment of the lecture which is
more score-technique driven and specific to the concept of merging
musical supervision and source music with the creation of the score
includes working with temp tracks and deciphering needle drops into
an original audio production. The final segment focuses on merging
sound design with score and how different sound departments need to
communicate and interface with each other.”
