Vacant Space
A new sound and image installation by Janek Schaefer
Does a tree falling in a forest make a sound if no one is there to hear it?
Have you ever wondered what happens when you are not there?
Sound artist and Guinness Book of Records record-holder Janek Schaefer¹s new
audio-visual installation, Vacant Space, invites you to experience the world
in one small room.
Let this beautiful, seductive and immersive work lead you through the
infinite vistas of the private lives of sounds and buildings. Layers of
amplified location recordings are revealed that weave together to endlessly
create new places. Vivid architectural images respond to this random
soundtrack and the movement of people in the gallery space.
This stunning environment will guide you on a constantly shifting tour of
hundreds of merging panoramic perspectives and hours of captivating field
recordings collected at locations all over the globe by award winning sound
recording artist Chris Watson.

Praise for Janek Schaefer
"Where you'd thought that Fluxus and everything that came after it had
turned almost every stone, this man keeps coming up with concepts that are
so simple they excite you." Uzine, Belgium
"Ambitious, revealing, and terribly, abstractly impressive."
