Hassle Hound spinnen aus den Samples von vierzig Jahren Pop-Geschichte,
Spielzeug-Instrumenten, Gitarren und Gesang einen bizarren, wohlschmeckenden
Musik-Cocktail, mal überschäumend, mal sanft, doch zu keinem Zeitpunkt
abgeschmackt. Vielmehr angereichert mit einer großen Portion intelligentem
Humor und aus sämtlichen Musikstilen der Welt schöpfend, von fröhlich
wieherndem Country zu LoFi-Folk und Zigarettenrauch-geschwängerten
Kinderballaden. Atomage-Collagenpop durch den digitalen Filter gejagt. Musik
zum Zuhören und Entdecken der zahllosen Quellen, aus welchen sie schöpft.
Ein bisschen wie Coco Rosie auf angereichertem Hustensaft. Ein bisschen wie
eine wildgesäte Pflanze, deren Triebe kraftvoll in alle Richtungen streben.
Vor und nach dem Konzert wird Staubgold Labelboss Markus Detmer
Schallplatten auflegen.

HASSLE HOUND

Hassle Hound are a benign tornado, roaring and twisting through the best and
most eclectic of record collections, ripping out and tearing off ideas and
samples. They plunder for a reason - to make fragile and lovely music, often
charmingly odd but with a gleeful melancholy, off-kilter but on the ball.
There is a childlike quality to their music, but the child in question must
be a musical prodigy with a wry sense of humour and a maturity beyond his
years.
They are not afraid to be beautiful. Machines and beats are caressed into
soft humanity by delicate vocals, the boisterous cuddle of eccentrically
played instruments and ingenious guitar patterns. Here are wistful love
songs which also sound like the greatest James Bond theme ever (if those
films had ever been made by a 60's new wave Czech director). Cartoon
oneirics slapstick their way across lush countryside and toddle through
town, favourite-uncle drunk and beaming expansively.
Trying to pin them down is like drinking beer with a fork. They coin new
genres like other bands do sound checks - too much funky not enough, crofter
dub, genial noise, surf and turf guitar, carousel gothic, collagetronica. If
Harry Partch had made music for ice-cream vans it might have been like some
of these affable inventions.

der Baumwollfelder, die fragilen Weisen der Americana und des Folk. So auch
SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE, ein reines Ladies-Quartett aus Chicago, das
bereits zahlreiche US-Tourneen absolviert hat und sich nun erstmals auf die
Reise nach Europa begibt. Wir sind gespannt, denn die Pressevergleiche und
Lobeshymnen lassen Namen ertönen wie Incredible String Band, Current 93 oder
Comus, alles Gruppen, bei denen dem Genießer der Folkklänge eine Gänsehaut

SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE is a four-woman free folk band from Chicago
whose musical palette includes the cello, bul bul tarang, various drums and
bells, ecstatic yelps and cackles, and all manner of plectra.. Their
eclectic, outsider folk has drawn comparisons to Comus, Current 93 and The
Raincoats.

whose ecstatic, communal psych-folk draws on the same fragrant smoke that
fed the otherworldly likes of such vintage acts as Comus, Jan Dukes De Grey,
or COB, as well as on the crypto-ethnicity of the Sun City Girls' Carnival
Folklore Resurrection series or the Gothic spiritualism of Current 93. On
their second album Four Winds the Walker (Secret Eye Records), the foursome
emit such inspired gusts of collective fire that they resemble a witches'
coven almost as much as a band, their shadow-draped music seeming to issue
forth organically from the soil like a sulfurous hot spring. When operating

Der Dokumentarfilm mit dem treffenden Titel Step Across The Border
porträtiert den Barrikadenstürmer Fred Frith aus England in fantastischen
Bildern. Die Filmemacher Nicolas Humbert und Werner Penzel haben sich dafür
zwischen 1987 und 1990 an die Fersen von Fred Frith geheftet, ihn quasi auf
Schritt und Tritt verfolgt. Die Regisseure aus der Schweiz und Deutschland
filmten ihn gemeinsam mit befreundeten Kollegen (Joey Baron, Tom Cora, John
Zorn, Cyro Baptista, Arto Lindsay etc.) in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Verona,
Leipzig, London, New York und Zürich und hielten mit laufender Kamera fest,
wie die Künstler in ständig wechselnden Konstellationen Musik machten. Wir
erleben sie im Probenraum, im Studio und auf der Bühne, erfahren in
Interviews mehr über ihre Kunstvorstellungen, sehen Filmszenen im
Hotelzimmer und auf dem freien Feld. Dabei wird musikalisch ein breites
Spektrum von Freejazz über Noise-Rock und avantgardistische Geräusche bis
hin zu asiatischen Folklore abgedeckt.
