Internationally acclaimed cellist Alex Waterman plays masterpieces by
Cornelius Cardew, John Cage and Morton Feldman...joined by Bruce Tovsky (laptop)
and Zach Layton (laptop) in improvised duets and a trio.
Alex Waterman studied cello at the New England Conservatory, and the Oberlin
Conservatory of Music. He is a founding member of the Plus Minus Ensemble,
based in Brussels and London, specializing in avant-garde and experimental
music. Alex has worked with musicians such as Richard Barrett, Keith Rowe,
Axel Dorner, Tristan Honsinger, Ned Rothenberg, Mark Helias, Steve
Heather, Cor Fuhler, Gert Jan Prins, Andy Moor and members of <<the Ex>>,
Yannis Kyriakides, Mary Oliver, Michael Moore, Anthony Coleman, Phil
Niblock, Pauline Oliveiros, Robert Ashley and Michael Finissy. He has
performed as guest musician with numerous ensembles, including Trio Event
Berlin, Champs d'Action, Q-O2, and Black Jackets Company.
Zach Layton is a New York based composer interested in biofeedback techniques and psychoacoustics. He is also the organizer of the monthly experimental music series "Darmstadt: Classics of the Avant Garde." His work has been performed at the Aspen Music festival, Cleveland Chamber Symphony and at the Seventh International Performance Art Festival in Berlin.
Bruce Tovsky is a visual/sound artist based in in Brooklyn, New York.
After earning his MFA degree in Multimedia from Rutgers University in 1979, he began showing video across the USA, Europe and Japan. He has worked as an audio producer/engineer (Liquid Liquid, Lydia Lunch, Karen Finley, Foetus) and as a video editor/designer for commercials and music videos. For the past several years he has been creating live video and sound improvisations, often in collaboration with artists such as John Hudak, David Linton, Stephen Flinn, Emil de Waal and Kim Cascone in a variety of spaces around New York City, including Diapason, Experimental Intermedia, Issue Project Room, Tonic, The Tank and his own installation space 106BLDG30 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Monkeytown is an interesting mix of innovative cuisine and multimedia performance, in a beautiful setting in the heart of Williamsburg.
