STEIM Micro Jamboree - Dec 11 - 14, 2006
STEIM is organising a Micro Jamboree from Dec 11 - 14, bringing
together specialists in the field of sensor systems and their
applications. Participating is only possible after registering by
sending an email to jamboree at steim.nl.The concerts are of course open
for everyone.
All presenters and performers are very welcome to visit the full
program.
Monday Dec 11
STEIM's LiSa - current and future developments
Location: STEIM, Achtergracht 19, Amsterdam
Michel Waisvisz and Frank Baldé will present LiSa XC, the LiSa player
that will run LiSa X setups (without the possibility to edit), and
that will work as a universal binary on both the PPC and Intel
processor in Mac computers. Plans for further development of this
player into a full program will be presented in an informal session,
where feedback is very welcome.
13:30 Welcome - with coffee / cake
14:00-16:00 LiSa future
16:00-17:00 Roundtable discussion
17:00 Drinks
Tuesday Dec 12
STEIM Hardware Meeting - Platforms for connectivity, creativity and
community
Location: STEIM, Achtergracht 19, Amsterdam
In recent years we have seen a boom in various prototyping sensor
platforms for artistic use. The idea of interfacing with sensors and
microcontrollers in the arts is nothing new, however what we see
different today is that the knowledge and tools to accomplish this
has become more accessible through various channels and development
has become ubiquitous. At STEIM we believe it is an interesting time
for both the artists and designers to rethink about how technology
may enhance (or deprive) creativity, and share these thought amongst
others.
We have invited a handful of developers of sensor platforms to give
an informal presentation about their work and experience, and have
planned a roundtable discussion with these developers and an
Amsterdam based user group. This will be an intimate gathering
amongst the invited and registered guests of the STEIM Micro-Jamboree.

- Dan Overholt - CUI USB Interface, UCSB, US
- Emmanuel Flety - WISEBOX OSC/WiFi interface, IRCAM, FR

STEIM Applications Meeting - Presentations about the practice of
using sensor systems - both hardware and software
Location: STEIM, Achtergracht 19, Amsterdam
Since many years, STEIM has worked together with (groups of) artists
to realize their projects, most of them dealing with interfacing real-
life with analog and digital circuitry. For the Micro Jamboree we
invited some of those artists as well as representatives of other
institutions to present their projects. After a refreshing lunch
there will again be a roundtable discussion to exchange ideas about
the presented projects, and the balance between technology and
creativity in sensor systems in general.
Participants:
- Per Samuelsson (Sweden) - musician/composer presenting a lecture/
performance using two joysticks with junXion and Max/MSP - http://
www.persamuelsson.se
- Peter Sinclair and the Locus Sonus research group (Brett Bhalogh,
Nico Bralet, Lydwine Van der Hulst) (Aix-en-Provence, France) -
http://www.nujus.net/ http://nujus.net/~locusonus/
- Andrei Smirnov (Moscow, Russia) - lecture/presentation of USB D-
Sensors, the second generation of Theremin sensors (the 'plug-and-
play theremin') and their use in other instruments - http://
asmir.theremin.ru/
- CK Barlow (Santa Fe, USA) - musician/composer and long-term LiSa
user presenting a lecture/performance of a live setup with LiSa and
Max/MSP - http://www.ckbarlow.com/
- Tom Tlalim and Voldemars Johansons (The Hague, NL) - two composers/
musicians and (ex)sonologists present QuantaSonic, a project to
create a 3D controller for sound synthesis and spatialization (using
a 3-axis accelerometer & gyro sensor) - http://www.tomtlalim.tk
- Andreas Otto (Luenenburg/Berlin, DE) - musician/composer presenting
Fello, a STEIM project in cooperation with Florian Grote - Fello is
an interactive listening system for the cello, but not limited to
this instrument - http://audio.uni-lueneburg.de/extern/fello/
