Message-ID: <038587286dcb8032c73570d9349301b1@3particles.com> hello, back from beautiful berlin (where i would love to move) and charming chemnitz where i got to perform my first live set "under the stars" at the ELECTRIC CAMPFIRE event by RASTER-NOTON with bugs chiming along to different frequencies. got to visit the relocated staalplaat store where i walked in and my cd was playing ... that was a first for me. the new look and packaging for LINE cds are now available with CDs by CHESSMACHINE and STEVE RODEN. http://www.12k.com enjoy the last few days of summer. autumn.. here we come. hope to see some of you in switzerland! most of all i hope you are all well and none of you or your families or friends were hurt/trapped by the hurricane in the gulf coast. i encourage you to make donations for disaster release at http://www.redcross.org r - - RECENT RELEASES AVAILABLE ON 3PARTICLES.COM PAYPAL SITE - - OUT NOW > 2CD . Re'post'post-fabricated [ DSP Recordings, Italy ] This 2CD project will have the reformed/remastered Post-Fabricated CD (originally issued on CDR on Dutch label Microwave in 1999 as an edition of 222). I was never happy with the sound quality of the final master due to the engineer and my analog recording limitations at the time. This is an odd recording for me, which you could say is my most "pop" release in its quirky rhythmic elements. The second CD is remixes/reworkings from the original files by Frank Bretschneider, COH, Taylor Deupree, Freiband, Goem, Alva Noto, Byetone, Sogar, Asmus Tietchens, Vend, Matmos, Steve Roden, and myself (getting dubby). OUT NOW! CD . 35 Mutant Seconds: based on Rafael Toral?s Creamy Burst. [ Grain of Sound, Portugal ] features reworks using a Toral guitar piece from 1991 as source material. My piece was selected from a series of 3 improvisations. other artists include: Pita, Fonica, Sawako, John Kannenberg, Stapletape and Allto and more. OUT VERY SOON! LP + CD . Retrieval 1-2 + Retrieval 1-5 [ ERS, The Netherlands ]. This will be two works that were created at my artist residency at the Music Research Centre @ York University, UK. based on soundfiles and loops of mine from 1990-1993. the CD will include an extended reworking of "Retrieval 3" + 2 additional retrieval pieces. http://radiantslab.com/ers these can be pre-ordered on the online store below. shipping of orders should be by mid september. OUT NOW! CD . CHESSMACHINE Live in Los Angeles [ LINE, US ] the collaborative performance project CHESSMACHINE by Richard Chartier (US) and Ivan Pavlov (aka COH) (RUS). A certain humor shapes the conceptual dialectics of the CHESSMACHINE live experience. Their interplay suggests the historical confrontation of East and West; an austere and chilling tete-a-tete over the chessboard that reconstructs the somber milieu of a bygone Europe, even as it conveys a kind of absurdist levity through the rehearsed performance of these roles. The use of MAC and PC computer operating systems by Chartier and Pavlov, respectively, becomes the late-20th century manifestation of classic Cold War combatants. Through their engagement, a process of sonic and aesthetic displacement unfolds, such that one player's strategic manipulation of sound begins slowly to affect and then determinatively shape the compositional technique of the other. CHESSMACHINE's live performances take place in real time with color coded staging, uniforms, lighting, and video projections designed by Russian-American installation/video artists Evelyn Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand. This live recording of Chessmachine took place on February 25, 2005 at REDCAT in Los Angeles. The performance was presented by the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) as part of Visual Music: SEE HEAR NOW!, an experimental music series investigating the synaesthetic resonance between contemporary music and visual art, in conjunction with their exhibit Visual Music. http://www.12k.com a limited number of these & other releases are available via the ONLINE STORE http://www.3particles.com/paypal also there are only 2 copies of OVERVIEW available! after that,,, they are gone. - - RECENT + CURRENT STUFF - - OUT NOW > LINE TSHIRT . Roger Mills Editor http://www.furthernoise.org 'Explorations in Sound' Selection 1 has just been launched releasing our first quarterly high quality MP3 compilations of adventurous critical music & sounds. Each selection is a limited edition release, available free to download (artwork included) for 3 months before being replaced by the next editions compilation. We will be featuring a diverse array of international artists and groups who are pushing the boundaries of their genre and exploring new terrains that communicate via sound. 1. Tongue - Mark Francombe Mark Francombe is a composer, performer and artist with a well heeled reputation for experimental electronic and improvised music. A founding member and guitarist of the 1980's UK indie band Cranes he recorded and toured extensively throughout Europe before moving to Norway in 1997. He composes & performs with modified, heavily treated, baritone guitar and releases his music through small independent CDR labels including his own Synch Non Synch label. His recent album Ear, Nose & Throat is released through Oslo based Synesthetic Recordings and is featured in the current edition of Furthernoise where he also contributes as a reviewer. www.markfrancombe.com 2. Sleep Driver - Martin Stig Anderson Martin Stig Andersen graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark in 2003. He is currently a phd student in electroacoustic composition at City University, London, studying with Denis Smalley. His track 'Sleepdriver' draws the listener into a deeply evocative mood where agitated sub-frequencies and gathering crescendos suggest a sinister, cinematic quality deduced from its title, www.martinstigandersen.dk 3. Subterranea - Alex Young Alex Young lives in London and works for a small software company near Battersea Park. He fostered an interest both computer music and computer science from an early age, and endeavors to combine the lessons learnt in both fields. After studying classical guitar and music technology, Alex went on to study computing at degree level and graduated in 2001. When he's not working, Alex diligently reviews netlabel releases (inc Furthernoise) and investigates digital art for his weblog. http://www.alexyoung.org 4. The Speaker Hurts - Holzkopf Holzkopf, AKA Jake Hardy is an extreme beat/noise experimenter from Saskatoon, Canada. "I want to make music that sounds like it's running as fast as it can away from the end of the world. Like it's trying desperately to grab onto anything old, tried and true, in order to slow down as much as possible before hitting the wall at the end of the road. Savoring every last moment. Taking long breaths." Add to that direction segments of melodic strings being pushed between walls of mid-range noise and clumsy rhythms. Bits of clunky guitar inspired by cold beer and sunny days pop up, and then always more noise and more interruptions. Sorry... http://www.daintydeathy.com 5. Guetto Express - Ultra-red In the world of modern electronic music and sound art, Ultra-red distinguish themselves for their intrepid blend of political commitment and innovative sound. Rejecting both self-satisfied formalism and convenient political posturing, Ultra-red have for over ten years pursued a precarious but dynamic exchange between art and political organizing. Collectively, the Los Angeles-based group has produced radio broadcasts, performances, recordings, installations and pubic space occupations (ps/o). www.ultrared.org 6. I've got something to tell you - Anomaly Anomaly AKA David de la Haye left Jersey in 1981 with rucksack and bass guitar in hand amidst the August sunbeams of 1999. A few erroneous bus journeys later he happened upon Leeds College of Music. Alternative modes of composition soon became highlighted accidentally sampling a fast-forwarding CD whilst searching for the new ?amen? loop. He currently spreads his time between making glitchy electronica and writing reviews for Sonic Art Network 'Diffusion' and Furthernoise. 7. Darcade (edit) - Sawtooth Sawtooth are an evolving musical entity that collaborates with musicians & artists on a project basis. Darcade edit is a series of instrumental improvisations responding to a roving stereo field recording inside a gaming parlour. The field recording itself is a dense layer of multitimbral sounds from electronic bleeps and soundbytes to the accoustic sounds of human interaction with the machines. Entwined in this collage are improvisations from trumpet, flute, tenor sax and double bass responding to the changing sounds of the parlours environment. www.sawtooth.org.uk 8. Edit - Smartest Kid on Earth Smartest Kid on Earth are 6 blokes from Cardiff UK who have nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon than play improvised electro jazz. With an uabashed passion for Prog Rock their music sits somewhere between Can, Miles Davis and Kraftwerk. 9. War Called - Mac Dunlop Mac Dunlop is a Poet (MA in Fine Art, U. of Northumbria, 1992) (CACDP Certificate in British Sign Language). He is a founding member of the International Artist Collaboration project ...here nor there...(HNT) and recently collaborated with HNT collegue, Neil Jenkins on the generative poetry engine Orbital which will feature in the academic journal of electronic arts: Leonardo, (issue 36:4). Mac's work ranges across various disciplines and his on line poetry and video work has been exhibited as part of international touring exhibitions. www.sparror.cubecinema.com/macdunlop 10. Track 3 - Darren Ziesing Darren Ziesing is based in Canberra, Australia where he writes and performs as an experimental electronic musician, escaping to write the majority of his work up in the nearby Snowy Mountains. He has worked on numerous collaborative albums and now releases under the project names Stalker and Liife and runs his own label GEO records. www.abc.net.au/arts/adlib/stories/s903465.htm -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... About Cinema Volta: Daily Ambience: As an exploration of ambient music and the limits of my own creativity, I will be composing and releasing a new song each day. Sometimes these songs will be sketches, sometimes full-blown compositions, it all depends on my inspiration and my available time. I hope to keep this up for a year, let's see how it works out. I hope you enjoy them. About Cinema Volta: Cinema Volta consists of John Maxwell Hobbs, a stack of electronic equipment, musical instruments in various states of disrepair and occasional collaborators. John Maxwell Hobbs is an electronic musician based in Stockholm Sweden who has been working with computer multimedia and telecommunications for more than eighteen years. His contributions to the early days of music on the web have been documented in the book "Virtual Music" by William Duckworth. From the book: "In a review of his interactive online instrument, Web Phases, Kyle Gann of the Village Voice described it as being 'on a noticeably higher artistic level' than the earliest tape-music and computer- music pieces, concluding that 'the potential for social reorientation is even more incredible,' and predicting 'we'll look back and say 1998 was the year our relationship to music entered a new era.'" For much of the '90s he was the Producing Director of The Kitchen in New York where he was involved in producing the performances by Philip Glass, DJ Spooky, David Hykes and many others. He is the Vice President of the board of directors of Vanguard Visions, an organization dedicated to fostering the work of artists experimenting with technology and also served on the Digital Arts subcommittee of the Mayor's Council on New Media in New York City. His interactive composition Web Phases was one of the winners of ASCI's Digital '98 competition. He has collaborated with artist/ programmer Mark Napier on Ripple, an interactive musical instrument. -------------------------------- John Maxwell Hobbs jmax at cinemavolta.com Cinema Volta: Daily Ambience Fresh Ambient Music Composed Daily a new tune every day, free of charge at: http://www.cinemavolta.com/daily -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... What exactly is the difference between the playing of a game and the playing of a musical instrument? The Shape Sequencer is an attempt to approach the design of software having learnt from the qualities of game interaction. Built using the realtime graphics and audio software PD (and GEM), Poil has created a 3D graphical electronic instrument for up to four players, wheresounding shapes are manipulated using joypads to record small loopingpatterns. The series has been Olivia Block?s primary focus for the last eight years. It is stylistically, and to a certain extent thematically, consistent with the other two works. The structure of the slow unfolding arch, the focus on the use of space as a compositional tool, and the careful combination of field material, ensembles of musicians, and electronics, are present in all three works. Change Ringing is the fanfare which closes the processional. Olivia Block is a contemporary composer and sound artist who combines field recordings, scored segments for acoustic instruments, and electronically generated sound. Her recorded work seeks to introduce, set at play, and ultimately reconcile nature with artifice in the realms of music and sound. In the process, "organic" sound becomes subtly processed, digitized and abstracted; "inorganic" sound becomes self-replicating and animate; and "musical" elements such as chamber instruments are defamiliarized from their traditional associations, freeing them to participate in the larger aesthetic possibilities of sound. Block has released several CDs, has performed live in venues and throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan, including Festival Archipel in Geneva, Sonic Light in Amsterdam, and the Angelica Festival in Bologna. She will be participating in the Sound Field festival in the fall of 2006. She has created several sound installations for galleries and museums, most recently for the stairwell of Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in January 2005. Currently she is expanding her field of interest to include video work, and she has returned to finish her degree in music composition. http://oliviablock.net ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| cut 015 Tomas Korber "effacement" Composed over the time span of two years, "effacement" draws on Tomas Korber's work with guitar, electronics, field recordings and the computer. Although comprised of six different pieces, "effacement" can be heard as one long composition. The unifying qualities of each separate piece reveal themselves with repeated listening. As the music on this CD spans an extremely wide dynamic spectrum, listening at a loud volume is suggested. Swiss-Spanish composer/improviser Tomas Korber was born in 1979 in Z?rich, Switzerland. He has performed solo and collaborated with ErikM, Otomo Yoshihide, Mersault, Jason Kahn, G?nter M?ller, Dieb13, Dropp Ensemble, Norbert M?slang, Toshimaru Nakamura, Steinbr?chel and Keith Rowe, among many others. Korber has released CD's on numerous labels, including Absurd, For4Ears, (1.8)sec.records, Kissy Records and w.m.o/r. He has also composed music for theater and film productions. http://tomaskorber.com ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| From sssst at musork.com Thu Sep 8 15:12:23 2005 From: sssst at musork.com (stephan mathieu) Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2005 21:12:23 +0200 Subject: [Microsound-announce] some shows, september-november Message-ID: hello, heres my live schedule for the next couple of weeks. please say hi if you're around - stephan -- 24.09.2005 EMF Festival > Setubal, Portugal audiovisual solo + live piano with Naja Orchestra http://joaquim.emf.org/EME/EME2005.htm -- 08.10.2005 Dis-Patch Festival > Belgrad, Hungary talk + audiovisual concert www.dis-patch.com -- 06-11.11.2005 Music Research Center > York, England residency and student talks with Janek Schaefer + audiovisual duo concert on 11.11.2005 http://music.york.ac.uk/mrc www.audiOh.com -- 19.11.2005 Lampo > Chicago, USA audiovisual concert www.lampo.org -- |--- -- | --- | - -| || www.bitsteam.de ... is currently under construction From sssst at musork.com Thu Sep 8 16:55:27 2005 From: sssst at musork.com (stephan mathieu) Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2005 22:55:27 +0200 Subject: [Microsound-announce] re: some shows, september-november Message-ID: > Dis-Patch Festival > > Belgrad, Hungary thats Belgrad, Serbia of course... sitzen machen! - stephan From neil at phoniq.net Thu Sep 8 19:40:14 2005 From: neil at phoniq.net (Neil Wiernik) Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2005 19:40:14 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [Microsound-announce] vague terrain presents garnny'ark/naw/akumu sept 24th 2005 Message-ID: <20050908193947.O89279@nocturne.dreaming.org> saturday september 24th - vague terrain presents... granny'ark - vancouver / zora lanson / interdisco naw - noise factory / vague terrain akumu - spider records video / patricia rodriguez - substance communications art bar / the gladstone hotel limited capacity $5 / doors open @ 9pm 1214 queen st. west toronto, canada http://www.vagueterrain.net Vague Terrain is very excited to showcase the talents of emerging minimal techno wunderkid Granny'ark for a live set at our September 24th show at the Gladstone hotel. Granny'Ark is the music project of nomadic media artist Michelle Irving. Although officially a resident of Vancouver, Granny'Ark spends the other part of her time at Zora Lanson Label's home base in Berlin. Her first release Resurgo (2004) garnered praise from The Wire, XLR8R, De-Bug, and was featured on the late John Peel's legendary Radio One show. Granny'Ark's music can be described as a blend of explorations in electroacoustic sampling, and musical structures of rhythm and melody. Generally, Granny'Ark attempts to transform sounds into a progressive soundscape that evokes a sense of mood or place in the listener. Sometimes this might mean enticing them to dance. Her music is featured in the internationally acclaimed documentary "The Corporation" and another award winning Canadian documentary "Scared Sacred." In the fall Granny'Ark will be releasing her follow-up EP on Zora Lanson Label as well as a collaborative project with Si Cut.db on Biphop. Granny'Ark's "Three Seas and One Bottle" EP is available for download at http://www.interdisco.net Neil Wiernik (aka naw) has been extremely busy over the 12 months. The last year has seen the release of two naw albums; "Green Nights, Orange Days" on Noise Factory and "Terrain Vague" on Pertin_nce, as well as an extensive European tour. Neil's production was recently described by The Wire as having "the kind of sharpness and clarity usually lost amid the murk and decay of clicks and cuts and digital delays." Neil recently moved back to Toronto and began working with long-time collaborator Greg Smith in the creation of Vague Terrain, an entity which will promote a series of eclectic electronic music showcases and the website of which will act as a digital arts journal. Neil will also be playing at the upcoming Toronto based "Ear to the Ground" festival details are available at http://www.eartothegroundfest.com and http://www.naw.phoniq.net for more information about the artist. Akumu is Toronto's Deane Hughes, composer of atmospheric ambience, shadowy beats and minimal manipulations. Formed as a solo project in 2000, Akumu has released three full-length albums on his own Spider Records imprint. His newest CD, Magmas (2005) was conceived and written in Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico; it is the follow-up to 2004's Fluxes, an ambient, zero-bpm recording of unflinching minimalism that The Wire says "raises neat hackles across the skin" For six months, Deane traveled throughout remote locations, making binaural recordings from which he created the drone- and loop-based instruments that form the spine of material on both CDs. Akumu has performed live across Ontario and Quebec, including 2005's Mutek festival in Montr?al, featuring visual projections of original photography, animated collages and 2D/3D digital experiments. His live sets highlight and improvise on Magmas and Fluxes to create an immersive, flowing sound scape of micro-sonics, ambient drones and low-frequency pulses. Akumu's 2005 mutek set can be listened to at http://www.mutek.ca/2005/artist.php?lang=en&artist_id=akamu Keeping with our mandate of integrating electronic music with digital art, Vague Terrain will be welcoming back one of our earliest collaborators, video artist Patricia Rodriguez. Formally trained in the visual arts, Patricia is a multidisciplinary specialist, integrating analog and digital technologies. She delights in playing with perception and problem-solving. A keen synaesthete, Patricia enjoys the neurological mixing of the senses. Her love for improvisation translates into performances using movement, sound and light (including video and film), as well as real-time collaborations with musicians and other artists. She has shown her work alongside Richie Hawtin, Monolake, Kit Clayton, Derrick May, Steve Bug, and Damo Suzuki of Can to name a few. She has worked with several collectives including Clonk, Eight, Wabi, Whipit, Die Lux, and Geekend. Patricia is currently the Art Director for Substance Communications. The sleeves I use for the series were on back-order, which prevented me from anouncing this to the general public sooner. This release is very limited in number and currently I have no plans to reissue any of the Phonography.org compilations, so be sure to get one while they are still available. Special thanks goes to all of the participants over the years and to the listeners who supported the series. In all, there were 9 compilations within a 4 year timespan (7 in the straight-up field recording series, and 2 in the composer series). All but two compilations (#5 and #7) are out of print, which some distributors and mail order shops around the globe still carry. To see a list of most of the participants, look here: http://www.and-oar.org/and_oar_links2.html To search for out of print compilations, go to the following link and scroll down to "and/OAR DISTRIBUTORS, MAIL ORDER, & RETAIL STORES" http://www.and-oar.org/and_oar_links.html and check with the various outlets. THANK YOU! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity presented by patrick mcginley well folks, we are finally back in the studio after a long, long time away - i hope you enjoyed your chance to hear so many of the framework:focus programs again during our summer repeat schedule, but i hope as well that you're as pleased as we are to be back with these piles of new material. this week we started the long task of getting through them - in fact we didn't even quite catch up with what was waiting to be played before we left! we framed our show with a fantastic new piece (in fact a work-in-progress, he informs us) by chris watson - a stereo mix-down of a quadruple hydrophone array recording the surf in tortuga bay on the galapagos islands. from within this bay we sampled sounds from meri von kleinsmid, joe colley, jim hoult and a glorious project from a few years back by doug haire - nineteen american waysides features location recordings of america's lost highways, in which are installed bizarre distant manipulations of old 78 rpm records, wafting by in the distance, amongst the rumble of traffic or insects. this really is a beautiful example of themed phonography - check it out! we also featured a framework intro recorded during our travels by estonian ceramic and installation artist mariliin kindsiko - now, there were many more of you we met out there who promised intros, don't think we've forgotten! we'll be looking out for them in the post soon... again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch! framework 31 nevill road london n16 8sl uk framework at talk21.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 09.09.05 this edition will be rebroadcast this wednesday, 14.09.05, at 11:00am bst (artist / title / album / label) mariliin kindsiko / framework intro recorded in an estonian forest while mushroom picking in a light rain kindsikom at art.tartu.ee doug haire / tarkio, mt 3:30am/sumatra, mt 2pm / nineteen american waysides / anomalous two clattering engines weave while a disembodied voice wanders in the distance... http://www.doughaire.com joe colley / future screaming / psychic stress soundtracks / antifrost circuit glitches and found sounds build to a pulsating crescendo joecolley at yahoo.com chris watson / tortuga bay / - / - in the midst of a massive surround seascape http://www.chriswatson.net doug haire / i-15s at id/ut border 4pm / nineteen american waysides / anomalous trafficless midday roadside - we're left only with the insects and the odd 78 additions... http://www.doughaire.com jim hoult / wave organ / - / - beautifully minimal reverberations of waves captured by enclosed space jimbroosia at yahoo.co.uk meri von kleinsmid / the rats in the walls / ex vivo / mimeograph if these are rats they can have the walls, and the ceiling and floor as well http://www.latibulum.com/mvk doug haire / myrtle beach, sc midnight/abilene, ks sundown / nineteen american waysides / anomalous whistling harmonics make way for singing traffic and wildlife http://www.doughaire.com meri von kleinsmid / ethereal tether / ex vivo / mimeograph dense rumble of birds, a tin can 1/4 full of water, traffic and voice http://www.latibulum.com/mvk joe colley / all of us are monsters and all of us think the others are monsters / psychic stress soundtracks / antifrost a bass rumble is agitated by a metallic squeak until it cracks joecolley at yahoo.com doug haire / alto, tn midnight/melstone, mt 2:30pm / nineteen american waysides / anomalous one last sampling of swirling roadside ghosts... http://www.doughaire.com chris watson / tortuga bay / - / - ...brings us back to the sea http://www.chriswatson.net -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- framework intro submissions: 1) take yourself and an audio recording device to a location of your choice 2) record for AT LEAST 1 minute before you - 3) read the following text: welcome to framework. framework is a show consecrated to field recording, and it's use in composition. field recording, phonography, the art of sound-hunting; open your ears and listen! 4) continue your recording for AT LEAST 2 minutes after you've finish speaking 5) send the recording on any format to the address above, or as an mp3 via email thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It works on most modern operating systems and allows users to connect and manipulate audio, video, network, and human interface data in real-time on almost any computer. These workshops will attempt to provide a progressive introduction for beginners to the manipulation of audio, video, and network data using Pure-Data and GEM on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Through the deconstruction of existing tools written in Pd, participants will gain an understanding of how the language works in practice while learning the syntax. We will also discuss the practice and politics of the Free and Open Source Software movement and it's implications for new media producers. No previous programming experience is required, but a working knowledge of computer applications for audio and/or video is an asset. The workshops will take place every Saturday afternoon from 1 to ~4pm at Video-In Studios for five consecutive weeks starting October 8th, 2005. The fee for all five sessions is $100. Single sessions may be attended at any point for a fee of $25, but remember that the workshops will be progressive and information covered in one session may not necessarily be reviewed in another. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop if they have one, especially to the first session, which will include an installation clinic. A finalized lesson plan will be on-line next week. I mentioned I was building a web based aggregator for feeds. Today, the system has been released in beta after over 3 months of work in my spare time (the page says "we" and "team" alot, but the only help I had was my girlfriend designing the top banner). It is at http://www.fluctu8.com and runs on a custom colocational virtual server. Google ads have been placed to help pay for the server cost (which I am eating 100% right now). There are also supporter accounts available to help out with the costs which remove the advertising; but actually the support system isn't 100% programmed yet so the support page isn't linked in yet (i have to write some code to remove the ads and automate the subscription/unsubscription process). If you are interested or have any comments, let me know. Theres some interesting audio content on there; ofcourse syndicated from various podcasts around the net. Podcast/RSScast/AtomCast submissions are welcome (it supports RSS2.0 / atom 0.3 / atom 1.0 ).. I have to write an atomcast specification document still. Now that is projects almost at completion I can go back to working on music.. Under the original title of "Der Sonne", this work was originally issued as a limited quantity CDR release on Andrew Deutsch's Magic If label several years ago. "The Sun was constructed by passing ocean waves (recorded at Rye Beach, New Hampshire), through various digital processing devices. The most articulate of these processors was a tone generator able to isolate and respond to specific frequencies present in the ocean waves. The concept behind The Sun was to make a static music or a kind of music that just shimmered in place. This concept can be traced back to the works of Anthony Braxton in his Tri Axiom Writings, and to Stockhausen in his early serial pieces. As Stockhausen says, "there is a difference between starting and stopping and beginning and ending". The pieces presented here do not begin and end but simply start and stop. The Sun is also a work, in a series of works, I have created to aid in the process of drawing. I call these works 'image drones/sounds for drawing'. The sounds were all inspired by the 'power field theories' of Joseph Beuys and are dedicated to him and his family." - Andrew Deutsch This release will present the first of a new line of packaging for and/OAR. Nicely printed oversized cardstock inserts inside a sturdy clear plastic sleeve with a flap. The CDs will be protected by cloth safety sleeves made in Japan. Special thanks to Kiyoshi Mizutani and Kiyoharu Kuwayama for their help in obtaining the sleeves. Thanks very much for your time. MATSUTAKE - NINE & SEVENTEEN We press Play, and having flown over huge Russia and moved across Western and Eastern Siberia, find ourselves in the head of Evgeniy Gorbunov, a musician living in Khabarovsk - a city in the Russian Far East. Evgeniy's music, and the music of the Matsutake project, can be imagined in the form of a big irregular mushroom that grows from inside of the author's head. A mushroom called "Nine & Seventeen" that's presented on this page was cut off in the winter of 2005, and is now available for a detailed examination. The major part of the work on the album was done through improvisation with the sounds Evgeniy recorded using his microphone. The sounds were arranged and processed to eventually form a natural communication. Ultimately all sounds got separated from the things they had once belonged to, and started a life of their own. Their communication bears no sense and no plot. All we can do is watch the sounds: they may either pour down like rain, or become innocently minimalistic, or shout one another down, or murnur something with perfect harmony and flawless consistency: A lot can be said about this music, yet there is no way to explain its nature. So, press Play and enjoy this delicious Mutsutake. http://www.nexsound.org/ns42.html Na zdorovya! ... /// www.nexsound.org ///... _________________________________________________________________ Don't just search. Neil Wiernik & Greg Smith vagueterrain.net editors/curators -- artist info Granny'Ark is the music project of nomadic media artist Michelle Irving. The last year has seen the release of two naw albums; ?Green Nights, Orange Days? on Noise Factory and ?Terrain Vague? on Pertin_nce, as well as an extensive European tour. More information on naw is available at http:/www.noisefactoryrecordings.com Akumu is Toronto?s Deane Hughes, composer of atmospheric ambiance, shadowy beats and minimal manipulations. Formed as a solo project in 2000, Akumu has released three full-length albums on his own Spider Records imprint. His newest CD, Magmas (2005) was conceived and written in Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico; it is the follow-up to 2004?s Fluxes, an ambient, zero-BPM recording of unflinching minimalism that The Wire says ?raises neat hackles across the skin.? For six months, Deane traveled throughout remote locations, making binaural recordings from which he created the drone- and loop-based instruments that form the spine of material on both CDs. Akumu has performed live across Ontario and Quebec, including 2005?s Mutek festival in Montr?al, featuring visual projections of original photography, animated collages and 2D/3D digital experiments. His live sets highlight and improvise on Magmas and Fluxes to create an immersive, flowing soundscape of micro-sonics, ambient drones and low-frequency pulses. More information is available on Akumu at http://spiderrecords.com/ Keeping with our mandate of integrating electronic music with digital art, Vague Terrain will be welcoming back one of our earliest collaborators, video artist Patricia Rodriguez. Curators Annet Dekker (Dutch Institute of Media Art, Montevideo/Time Based Arts] and Karel Doing [Film maker and co-founder of the Filmbank] put together a program in which 'interaction between different art disciplines is the central theme. http://www.filmfestival.nl http://www.revisie.org The performance ResonanCity is presented on the 3rd of October within the Re:visie program. Besides ResonanCity, two other performances - FACES (Joost van Veen & Huib Emmer) and OPTICAL MACHINES (Rikkert Brok & Maarten Halmans) will be presented on the evening of the 3rd. *ResonanCity* Many sounds and images in our everyday lives slip past our notice simply because they are too small, or because we lack the proper receivers to pick them up. "ResonanCity" is an ongoing project to gather these microscopic sounds and images from various cities, and to amplify and transform them. The goal is to build a new city of sound and visuals inside the old one, and to inspire curiosity and exploration of one?s own environment. Visually, Kolster?s work deconstructs the analog/ digital divide by presenting carefully prepared film positives in a software-manipulated environment. Similarly, Holzer?s realtime digital sound treatments highlight and enhance rather than obscure and distort the field recordings and sound objects he collects. ResonanCity recently won the second prize at the WRO International Media Arts Biennale in Wroclaw, PL. http://www.sarako.net/resonancity.html http://www.umatic.nl *Location: Post CS building* Re:Visie takes place in POST CM, Agnietenstraat in Utrecht. He is touring Europe and the DOVES i activated in Palermo (italy) will host his performance. DOVES have been included in a serie of appointments called XS[nosa]: not_only_sonic_acts (http://www.arpnet.it/antitesi/xsnosa ). Before him we had artists like Marc Behrens, Phill Niblock and others who pleased us with their works and that help us to create a small but attentive and satisfied/ing audience! DOVES (Day Off Venues for the Experimental Scene) are part of a network i' trying to start and promote in italy to present experiments dealing with sound and it relation with other arts. Those of you touring Italy might be interested, in fact the acronym DOVES (Day Off Venues for the Experimental Scene) refers to ?the venues for the electronic scene where performances in tour days off will be held?. This new initiative is of paramount importance and is based on the creation of a network of independent venues fit to host performances of Italian or foreign artists touring Italy. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + [M!M] [CHILE] [www.mikamartini.scd.cl] __________________________________________________ Correo Yahoo!
