Nuevo disco a cargo del artista digital Mitchell Akiyama, el más ambicioso de su carrera (si este apelativo cabe en el mundo de la música experimental) tras 3 trabajos publicados desde su Canadá natal, su primera referencia en el exquisito sello belga Sub Rosa. Basando sus composiciones en exploraciones de instrumentos tradicionales como la guitarra o el piano, Akiyama las altera, destruye y re-estructura a través de su laptop buscando siempre un acercamiento emocional al sonido partiendo de las diferentes texturas que lo componen

New album by digital artist Mitchell Akiyama, the most ambitious in his career (though such adjective doesn't fit well in terms of experimental music) after 3 works published from his native Canada, his first reference for the exquisite Belgian label Sub Rosa. Basing the compositions on explorations with traditional instruments as guitar, piano, strings and some other, Akiyama alters, shatters and restructure them through his laptop always searching for an emotional approach to sound, departing from its different textures

02. TOD DOCKSTADER

Sub Rosa ha editado también recientemente el “Aerial Volume 1” de Tod Dockstader, artista que viene trabajando desde los años 60 en el campo de la música concreta, en la linea de las principales figuras del género en Europa (Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Edgar Varese), aunque en su caso desde los Estados Unidos. Este es el primer trabajo de una serie de tres (que se irán presentando en el sello belga), que utiliza la radio como instrumento e introduce sus grabaciones en el campo de lo digital por primera vez

Sub Rosa recently released as well “Aerial Volume 1” by Tod Dockstader, an artist working from the 60s in the edges of the concrete music, in the line of the main European figures of the gender (Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Edgar Varese), in his case from the United States. This is the first work in a series of three (still to present by the Belgian label), that uses radio as a proper instrument, introducing his recordings in the digital field for the first time

03. PUNCK

Punck es un artista electrónico que autoedita sus trabajos a través de su netlabel Ctrl+Alt+Canc. Este es el primero, para el que utiliza grabaciones de campo, drones y samples de cine. Una película sin imágenes de 20 minutos de duración

Punck is an electronic artist self-editing his works through the Ctrl+Alt+Canc netlabel. This is his first, for which he used field recordings, drones and cinematic samples. “A movie without images” 20-minute long

04. PUNCK

La segunda referencia editada por Punck a través de su plataforma Ctrl+Alt+Canc es un larga duración titulado “Nowhere Campfire Tapes", para cuya composición, realizada este mismo año desde Italia, utiliza diversos elementos no tradicionales, como la síntesis digital de frecuencias sonoras, las grabaciones de campo y las siempre arriesgadas percepciones de los micrófonos de contacto

The second reference published by Punck through his Ctrl+Alt+Canc platform is a long length work entitled “Nowhere Campfire Tapes", composed this year from Italy, using a diverse range of innovative elements, from digital synthesis of sound frequencies to field recordings and contact microphone perceptions

05. TAYLOR DEUPREE AND KENNETH KIRSCHNER

Continuación de las investigaciones llevadas a cabo en colaboración por los neoyorkinos Taylor Deupree y Kenneth Kirschner, tituladas genéricamente Post_Piano, que presentan esta semana en Madrid. El evento tendrá lugar este miércoles, 25 de mayo, en el marco del auditorio de La Casa Encendida. Los dos artistas, junto a Richard Chartier, estarán presentes el jueves por la noche en el Bar Radar, con Kenneth Kirschner ofreciendo una sesión especial que incluirá las últimas novedades del sello 12k. Incluyendo este “Post_Piano 2”, que se encuentra en algún lugar entre el minimalismo digital y la composición experimental para piano

Follow-up for the investigations carried by NYC artists Taylor Deupree and Kenneth Kirschner, genericly entitled Post_Piano, which they are presenting this week in Madrid. The event will take place on wednesday 25th of May, at La Casa Encendida. Both artists, together with Richard Chartier, will be on thursday night at the Radar Bar, with Kenneth Kirschner djing for a special session that will include some of the last 12k releases. Including “Post_Piano 2”, that is somewhere in between digital minimalism and experimental composition for piano

06. RICHARD CHARTIER

Este jueves actuará en La Casa Encendida (y estará igualmente presente en Radar por la noche) el también norteamericano Richard Chartier, minimalista electrónico que ha recibido el aplauso de la crítica por sus anteriores trabajos investigando la relación entre sonido, silencio, focalización y escucha. Esta es su pieza para “Frequencies”, compilación editada recientemente en el sello Raster-Noton

On Thursday it will be Richard Chartier who will perform at La Casa Encendida in Madrid (and will be equally present at Radar in the night). Chartier is an electronic minimalist that has received critical acclaim for his investigations on the relationship between sound, silence, focus and listening. We will listen to his track from “Frequencies”, Raster-Noton label's last compilation 

07. KOJI ASANO 
Track: No.6 
Album: Takoyakinun 
Label: Solstice 

Cerramos la sesión de esta semana con otro destacado exponente del “hazlo tú mismo”, el japonés Koji Asano, que graba, edita, pone portada e incluso publica sus propios trabajos, a través de la etiqueta Solstice. Su 37ª referencia es una colección de piezas cortas grabadas en Japón en 1997 con un grupo que consta de guitarra, teclado y percusión. El artista japonés ha estado tan activo viajando y componiendo los últimos años que hasta ahora no le había llegado el momento a esta grabación, titulada en conjunto “Takoyakinun”

Koji Asano is a notable exponent of the “do it yourself” idea, recording, editing, designing and even releasing his own works, through his Solstice label. His 37th reference is a collection of short pieces recorded in Japan in 1997 in a band context, including guitar, keyboards and percussion. The Japanese artist has been so active traveling and composing during the last years that “Takoyakinun” had to wait until 2005 to see the light
