This public announcement has been delayed due to supplies
being on back order, plus the usual snafus with UPS...
In any event, and/OAR is pleased to finally announce the
second release in the long neglected "and/live" series:
TOBIAS C. VAN VEEN & TOMAS PHILLIPS: If Not, Winter
This release features 3 short solo performances by tobias c. van Veen
and 1 long collaborative performance between van Veen and tomas phillips.
The solo tracks by van Veen often display slow brooding shifts of
indistinct
shadings and lower register drones, while the collaboration between van
Veen and phillips is more varied; effortlessly traversing from one hue of
soundscape to another, although not veering too far away from the
seemingly established foundations of mood set forth by the first two solo
tracks of van Veen. Sound samples can be found here:

[tobias c. van Veen] is a renegade theorist & pirate, techno-turntablist
& writer
based in Montreal. Since 1993 he has directed conceptual and sound-art
events,
online interventions and radio broadcasts, working with STEIM, the New
Forms
Festival, the Banff Centre, the Video-In, Mutek, the Vancouver New Music
Society
and Hexagram.
His work has appeared in CTheory, EBR, Bad Subjects, Leonardo, FUSE
(contribtuing editor), e/i (columnist), The Wire, HorizonZero and through
Autonomedia, among others. His writing has been translated into Spanish,
Lithuanian and French and his art disseminated through Rhizome.org,
Javamuseum.org, Kunstradio, Burn.fm, Ci'TR, a handful of contemporary art
museums (Denver, Barcelona), No Type's Bricolodge and the and/OAR labels.
>From 1993-2000 he was Direktor of the sonic performance <ST> Collective
(shrumtribe.com) in Vancouver, B.C. and co-founder of technoWest.org and
thisistheonlyart.com. Van Veen Currently hosts The Upgrade! Montreal
(theupgrade.sat.qc.ca) and is Concept Engineer at the Society for Arts
and
Technology (sat.qc.ca). His dissertation is on the political and its
encounters with
digital culture. He also mixes a mean absynthe martini. His blog resides

[tomas phillips] has composed electronic and electro-acoustic music since
his first
solo contribution to the Shadow Tape compilation in 1994. He has since
released
limited edition CDRs under the names The Accidental Music, Sea Optic,
Lisbon, and
Eto Ami (in collaboration with Dean King). In 2002, Eto Ami created the
sound design
for Steve Paxton's Flat under the direction of Julee Snyder in Carborro,
North Carolina.
In 2003 the Trente Oiseaux label in Germany released Phillip's first solo
CD entitled
On Dit.
Performances include the Feather Net gallery in Raleigh, North Carolina
(2002), the
Societe des arts et technologiques in Montreal, Quebec (2003), Monument
National
in Montreal, to accompnay the 2003 production of Sarah Kane's Crave
(directed by
Kate Bligh), and a perfromance at the 2005 Pacard festival, hosted at
Mutek in
Montreal.
